Green Goodness Smoothie
This is our go-to when we need a proper reset and want to feel genuinely good about what we're putting in our bodies. It's got kale, spinach, chard and blueberries all blitzed into something thick, creamy and honestly a bit magic, with avocado and banana making it feel indulgent rather than punishing. The peanut butter adds this subtle nutty depth that ties everything together, and the cherry tomatoes give it a little lift you won't quite be able to put your finger on. We know a green smoothie sounds like a lot, but trust us on this one, it's become a proper staple in our mornings and once you've had it you'll get why.
Before You Start
- Powerful blender
Ingredients
- 50g kale
- 50g spinach
- 50g chard
- 8 blueberries
- 250ml water
- ½ avocado
- ½ banana
- 1 tbsp peanut butter
Method
Blend the mixture
- Put the kale, spinach, chard and blueberries and 50ml of the water into a powerful blender and whizz for 1–2 minutes until you have a smooth paste
Finish the smoothie
- Scoop the flesh of the avocado half into the powerful blender
- Add the banana, cherry tomatoes, peanut butter and the remaining 200ml of water
- Blitz until you have a thick and creamy smoothie (if you prefer it a little thinner, add a bit more water)
- Drink and feel healthier all day long
Tips & Variations
- Freeze your banana: We always keep a stash of frozen bananas in the freezer. Use one here instead of fresh and you'll get an even thicker, colder smoothie without needing any ice.
- Swap the greens: If you can't get hold of chard, just use more spinach or kale. Spinach is the mildest of the bunch so if you're new to green smoothies, lean heavy on that.
- Make it a meal: If you want this to keep you going longer, add a scoop of your favourite plant-based protein powder when you blitz the second round of ingredients. Vanilla works really well with the peanut butter and banana.
Why This Works
The trick is blitzing the greens first with just a small amount of water to get them completely smooth before adding everything else. If you throw it all in at once you can end up with leafy bits floating around, which nobody wants. Getting that paste sorted first means the finished smoothie is genuinely thick and creamy rather than gritty, and that texture is what makes it feel like a treat.
