Flaming Dragonfruit Cocktail
This one genuinely blew our minds the first time we made it. A flaming dragonfruit cocktail sounds like something you'd order at a fancy bar and spend a fortune on, but we've worked out how to do it at home in about 10 minutes. The dragonfruit gives this beautiful tropical sweetness, the ginger beer adds a fiery kick, and the rum ties everything together in the best way. And yeah, there's actual fire involved, which means it's basically guaranteed to impress anyone you make it for. Trust us, this is the one to pull out at your next party.
Before You Start
- Cocktail shaker
- Tall glass
- Lighter
- Muddler
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp agave syrup
- 1 shot Absinthe
- 2 shots white rum
- 1 dragonfruit
- 1 lime - make sure you keep the lime skin
- dash ginger beer
- ice
Method
First, prepare the dragon fruit
- Cut the top off the Dragonfruit
- Scoop out the flesh of the fruit, put it in a cocktail shaker & muddle
Next, mix the drink
- Add the White Rum, Ice, Agave Syrup & Lime Juice & shake vigorously so all the ingredients are mixed together
- Pour into a tall glass & top up with Ginger Beer
Now, it's time for the flame!
- Hollow out half the lime & fill the skin with Absinthe
- Carefully light the Absinthe with a lighter
- Blow the flame out, carefully remove the lime skin. BOSH!
Tips & Variations
- No dragonfruit? Mango or watermelon work brilliantly as a swap. Ian tried it with watermelon on a hot day and honestly it was incredible.
- Make it alcohol-free: Swap the rum for coconut water or a good sparkling tropical juice and it still tastes amazing. Nobody has to miss out.
- Be safe with the flame: Use a good quality high-proof rum for the fire element and keep a damp cloth nearby. Henry always says treat it like a candle, not a bonfire.
Why This Works
The trick is muddling the dragonfruit straight in the shaker so you get all that fresh fruity flavour working into the rum from the start, not just a splash of juice on top. The lime and agave balance everything out so it's not too sweet and not too sharp. And the flame, well, that's mostly for the drama, but honestly the drama is half the point.
