Perfect Porridge

Perfect Porridge

Honestly, porridge might sound boring but this one is anything but. We keep coming back to this because it's the kind of breakfast that actually sets you up properly, creamy oats with cinnamon, sweet banana, and whatever toppings you fancy on top. There's something really comforting about a bowl of this on a cold morning, it just feels like a hug. If you've ever had sad, gluey porridge before, this is the recipe that'll change your mind for good.

  • Transfer the porridge to a bowl, sprinkle over the toppings and eat immediately (before the three bears show up)

Tips & Variations

  • Use the right milk: We find oat milk works brilliantly here because it adds a natural sweetness and makes the porridge extra creamy. Almond milk works too but oat milk is our go-to every time.
  • Don't skip the salt: It sounds counterintuitive in a sweet breakfast but a tiny pinch of salt makes everything taste more rounded and brings out the cinnamon. Trust us on this one.
  • Make it your own with toppings: Banana is the base here but we love throwing on some nut butter, a drizzle of maple syrup, or a handful of berries. Henry always adds a spoonful of peanut butter and honestly it's a game changer.

Why This Works

The trick here is cooking low and slow and actually stirring it. We know it sounds obvious but most people crank the heat and walk away, and that's how you end up with lumpy, stuck-to-the-pan porridge. Taking those 4 to 6 minutes to stir it gently is what gets you that smooth, creamy texture that makes it genuinely lovely to eat.
